Buy Local Efforts

More and more communities are trying to encourage shoppers of services and products to buy local in order to keep dollars spent turning over in the local economy and to preserve jobs and business's especially in difficult economic times.

Some communities have even been sponsored by local governments efforts to reward those that do spend in their home towns.

Recently I was asked by a waitress in one of our restaurant's if I worked downtown and when I replied yes I received a discount on my lunch.

Do we as a downtown have a market and a desire as owners and operators to pursue a similar effort in some form?

Downtown Parking Enforcement

DASH and the City of South Haven are working together to gather a consensus from downtown merchants regarding parking time limits for on street parking.

This effort will also pursue the possible installation of 30 minute spaces in each block of the downtown.

Festival of Cars 2009


The Festival of Cars will take place Saturday June 6th 2009. The show will take place in the same locations as the last show in 2006.

The map shows where streets will be closed.

DASH at its monthly meeting voted to approve the Festival of Cars for this date.

Suggested guidelines for the last show will also be requested of the show organizers this year.

Media Survey

Recently an email requested info regarding what print media is read or received by Downtown business owners. This is not scientific and we only had 20 responses.

Results. #1 South Haven Tribune
#2 South Haven Observer
#3 Reminder
#4 Herald Palladium

Most said that they looked only looked occasionally at #s2-4.

Does anyone track new customers in your store/restaurant ... by asking where there have seen or heard about your business?
