ReplyDeleteThis past weekend we had a special event at our store that we promoted in the media as well as with direct mail to our client list. We asked everyone that made a purchse with us why they were in for our sale... How did they hear about it?
ReplyDeleteThe results were that 70% came in due to direct mail, 20% due to print media and 10% due to being here for the festival.
We had already been planning on using more direct mail this coming year and this makes that more compelling.
Yet last 1/4 of 08 we had 20% of our purchases made from new customers. Some of that was from referals but we are sure that there were many from our advertising in various mediums. The trick is knowning which one was doing the most good.
The rest of the year we plan on tracking events...and also tracking new customers to determine what we can do to get the best bang for the buck in whatever advertising we do.

Thanks to whomever who started this great easy blog!
ReplyDeleteI am doing a direct mail postcard for Valentine's Day. Sending to customers in a 50 mile radius. I placed the postcard in every bag for Icebreaker and brought some to the Visitor's Bureau.
I collect email addresses from everyone who buys something by offering a coupon. I send the coupon by email because lots of addresses don't actually go through. I plan to do a lot more marketing this year. I used to sell advertising and we always said when sales are down it is hard to spend money on marketing but that is exactly what is needed to bring the sales up.
We need to stay in touch with our customers regularly (without bugging them too much). Repeat customers are our mainstay. I have considered using a third party email program like "Constant Contact".
I really we believe we will still have a good summer at least for this season. I was in Chicago yesterday on a buying trip and people were writing orders at almost every booth!
I am a firm believer in working together to create a wonderful enviornment for shoppers of all types. Everyone benefits - the store owners and the customers!
